Eli hadn’t been able to fall asleep, instead becoming entranced by the way his girlfriend looked, sleeping peacefully and with everything she needed to say out of her system. He was a little surprised that she had woken up, although she had been asleep for hours, he figured he would just end up laying by her side for the rest of the evening, which he had absolutely no problem with. He smiled as she looked around his room in confusion, her question reminding him of their last evening spent together, when he had told her he’d carry her right up those steps if he had to. His eyes fluttered open and closed as her hand touched his cheek. “You fell asleep, a-and well I thought you’d want to be more comfortable.” He told her, hoping he hadn’t upset or pressured her by bringing her to his room when they were all alone, although his parents would be home soon. “I-I just carried you up here.” He finished, his eyes searching her fuzzy ones, still clouded over a bit from sleep. Her smile was contagious, and he couldn’t deny that he had missed her company like this, just being together. Noticing how quickly she sat up, Eli frowned a bit, fearing the worst. His fears slowly but surely washed away as she laid back down next to him, a soft sight of relief escaping his lips. “A couple of hours.” He told her, unwilling to get up from his very spot and check his phone, not when he was so comfortable and happy in this very position. “I called Jake right after I brought you up here.” He told her, getting a chill as he felt Clare’s soft ministrations against his cheek. “I asked him if he could cover for you for a while, and he had no problem.” He informed, noting that the conversation between the two had gone quite well. “My parents are still out on their little date, I was going to call them too, but I didn’t want to bother them.” He laughed softly, resting his forehead against hers and sighing softly. “Do you, um, do you want to m-maybe stay t-the night?” He asked, cursing himself mentally for his nervous stuttering.
“That was… really nice of you to take carry me upstairs. Thank you,” she replied softly. A pink blush found its way onto her cheeks and though she found his action incredibly sweet and loving her only wish was that she had been awake to witness him doing so. Rubbing the last remains of sleep from her eyes she nodded her head slowly as Eli continued to answer the previous questions she had shot at him. The idea that she had actually gotten a few hours of uninterrupted sleep felt foreign to her and though her body was still tired and achy and desired more sleep she had to admit that she felt a lot better since coming to his house and talking everything through. “I really am sorry that I slept that long. I… you must have been completely bored.” His comment about calling Jake and asking him to cover for her took her by surprise. She knew that in the past Eli and Jake hadn’t always gotten along, but she felt touched by the gesture that both of them were so willing and ready to cover for her when she needed it most. Snuggling into the comfort of his now familiar bed Clare pulled the quilt tighter around her shoulders as she moved to closer to her boyfriend. His stuttered and nervous question caught the younger girl off guard. They had spent the night together once before without any problems arising, but this time somehow felt different to her. Last time she had spent the night with him part of her was doing so because she knew she’d get in trouble, this time however she knew she was doing it for the right reasons. Not to get into trouble, but because she loved him and wanted to be here with him. Not trusting herself to speak without stuttering like he had she nodded her head yes slowly, her fingertips moving from his cheek to the back of his neck. “As long as you’re okay with it and the possibility of my falling asleep on you again,” she whispered teasingly. Letting her fingertips ghost gently up and down the back of his neck she reflected on everything that had happened the past few days and past few hours. Their fight, her dad coming home, their teary eyed apologies and his sweet gesture of carrying her upstairs and asking her to spend the night. Everything in her life had seemed to unravel at once at the start of vacation, but now at the end of vacation things seemed to have a promising way of getting put back together slowly. “I know that I haven’t always treated you the best when you first found out about my insomnia and and as it got worse I treated you worse shutting you out, but um… I wanted to thank you for always being there for me and for agreeing to come with me to the doctor. I know it probably hasn’t been easy seeing me like… well like this,” she rambled gesturing down to her messy hair and sweatpants.
The boy could practically hear his heart thumping in his chest as a blush rose to the girl’s cheeks, a sight he’d been dying to see since they had their fight. He immediately dismissed her apology, finding that after just a few hours of sleep, she seemed to come back to him, she was Clare again. There didn’t appear to be any unanswered questions, or lingering thoughts in the girl’s mind, and it showed, the couple hours of sleep serving as a refresher for Clare, relaxing her greatly. Eli shook his head a bit at the mention of being bored, surprised he hadn’t obtained his own blush. “You looked so peaceful and innocent.” He murmured, still not sure if his recent fascination with watching her while she slept would be considered creepy. Although his intentions remained pure, he couldn’t help but note the way her beautiful lips parted as she drew in and released gentle breaths. He mentally rolled his eyes, now finding himself acting like the peculiar vampires in one of her stories. Eli couldn’t help but feel his stomach doing twists and turns after the question finally escaped from his lips, fearing that maybe it had been too soon. Once she answered, he let out a heavy breath, one of which he had no idea he was holding in. “I don’t mind. Sleep is encouraged, in fact.” He told her, with a half smile, wanting to stay with her like this forever. With no complications. A shiver went down the boy’s back at their proximity, and the way her fingertips would just lightly ghost over the back of his neck. He moved his arm around her waist, his fingers now mocking her action, only along the small of her back. He gulped inaudibly as she began to speak again, cringing at the word insomnia, which suddenly made things sound very official, and worrisome. “Hey, we’ve been through this before, Clare. I’m not going anywhere, ever.” He mused, brushing his nose against hers as if accepting her thank you in this motion. “You’re beautiful.” He told her genuinely, noting how she’d gestured to her somewhat imperfect curls and sweats.
A lazy smile cast over his lips as she rested her head on his chest, wrapping his arms around her waist, and holding her...
