The boy could practically hear his heart thumping in his chest as a blush rose to the girl’s cheeks, a sight he’d been dying to see since they had their fight. He immediately dismissed her apology, finding that after just a few hours of sleep, she seemed to come back to him, she was Clare again. There didn’t appear to be any unanswered questions, or lingering thoughts in the girl’s mind, and it showed, the couple hours of sleep serving as a refresher for Clare, relaxing her greatly. Eli shook his head a bit at the mention of being bored, surprised he hadn’t obtained his own blush. “You looked so peaceful and innocent.” He murmured, still not sure if his recent fascination with watching her while she slept would be considered creepy. Although his intentions remained pure, he couldn’t help but note the way her beautiful lips parted as she drew in and released gentle breaths. He mentally rolled his eyes, now finding himself acting like the peculiar vampires in one of her stories. Eli couldn’t help but feel his stomach doing twists and turns after the question finally escaped from his lips, fearing that maybe it had been too soon. Once she answered, he let out a heavy breath, one of which he had no idea he was holding in. “I don’t mind. Sleep is encouraged, in fact.” He told her, with a half smile, wanting to stay with her like this forever. With no complications. A shiver went down the boy’s back at their proximity, and the way her fingertips would just lightly ghost over the back of his neck. He moved his arm around her waist, his fingers now mocking her action, only along the small of her back. He gulped inaudibly as she began to speak again, cringing at the word insomnia, which suddenly made things sound very official, and worrisome. “Hey, we’ve been through this before, Clare. I’m not going anywhere, ever.” He mused, brushing his nose against hers as if accepting her thank you in this motion. “You’re beautiful.” He told her genuinely, noting how she’d gestured to her somewhat imperfect curls and sweats.
“Mm sleep definitely sounds nice again,” she murmured softly. The thought of falling asleep again next to Eli on his bed this time instead of his downstairs couch brought a lazy smile to her lips. “Speaking of sleep how have you been sleeping?” she asked curiously. She knew from past conversations the two had shared that he occasionally dealt with sleepless nights and added into the mix their fight and his no doubt worried thoughts about her and her own problems she couldn’t help feeling a tinge of guilt if he hadn’t been sleeping properly. Pushing those negative thoughts out of her mind Clare felt her body melting more into Eli’s touch as his soothing fingertips ghosted along the small of her back. His nose brushed lightly up against hers making a girlish giggle slip past her pink lips. “Well, that’s at least some good news. I guess after all this time we’re still stuck with each other, right?” she teased lightly though her words held a deeper meaning. The memory of the first time they had each spoken a variation of those words to each other made Clare feel grateful that after everything they had been through both together and apart they still managed to be there for the other no matter what. His sweet, although somewhat predictable comment made the younger girl roll her eyes playfully at the older boy laying next to her. “I’m sure when I first showed up at your house unannounced and a complete mess I wasn’t so beautiful, but thank you,” she replied softly. Letting the silence consume them she focused on their soft breathing and the quiet but still noticeable tick tock of his wall clock. The innocent gesture of his fingertips lightly ghosting up and down the small of her back relaxed the younger girl in a way that she hadn’t felt in what felt like weeks. “You know I think you’re the only person who can make me feel so at ease and relaxed,” she murmured softly. Removing her fingertips from the back of his neck she placed them on his clothed chest over his heart, the feeling of his heart beating vibrated against her fingertips as she drew simple designs over his heart.
Eli smiled almost instantly as Clare admittedly told him how she would love to sleep again, feeling a sense of pride in the fact that over the course of weeks, Clare was unable to sleep, but in the time span of a few hours with him, she’d been able to rest easily and happily. He shrugged his shoulders a bit at her question, not having thought about it, really, and he didn’t want to frighten her with the things he had thought about. The anxiety of losing Clare forever after their fight had kept him up longer than usual, but his pills, as if right on cue, would do their part in easing his over dramatic thoughts, helping him slowly drift to sleep. “Fine.” He told her, not wanting any of this to be about him, they had spent enough of their relationship on him the first time around. His fingertips trailed over the smooth material of the black tee-shirt, just over the small of her back, a loving gesture that had become something of a habit between the two. He smiled in complete bliss at the sound of her soft, girlish giggle, serving as what he swore was one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. “Right.” He confirmed, his thoughts suddenly flashing to when he’d chased her down Degrassi’s hallways, assuring her that she wasn’t losing him, and she never would. Eli frowned a bit at the recent memory of Clare showing up at his doorstep so distressed and upset, “Nope, still beautiful.” He told her, completely genuine, a short chuckle following. His fingers continued their ministrations along her clothed lower back, humming something under his breath as the silence fell over them. A coy smile spread across his lips as she spoke up again, “You’re not calling me boring, are you?” He teased, nuzzling closer to her, and pecking the tip of her nose sweetly.
