: Apologies

Eli smiled almost instantly as Clare admittedly told him how she would love to sleep again, feeling a sense of pride in the fact that over the course of weeks, Clare was unable to sleep, but in the time span of a few hours with him, she’d been able to rest easily and happily. He shrugged his shoulders a bit at her question, not having thought about it, really, and he didn’t want to frighten her with the things he had thought about. The anxiety of losing Clare forever after their fight had kept him up longer than usual, but his pills, as if right on cue, would do their part in easing his over dramatic thoughts, helping him slowly drift to sleep. “Fine.” He told her, not wanting any of this to be about him, they had spent enough of their relationship on him the first time around. His fingertips trailed over the smooth material of the black tee-shirt, just over the small of her back, a loving gesture that had become something of a habit between the two. He smiled in complete bliss at the sound of her soft, girlish giggle, serving as what he swore was one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. “Right.” He confirmed, his thoughts suddenly flashing to when he’d chased her down Degrassi’s hallways, assuring her that she wasn’t losing him, and she never would. Eli frowned a bit at the recent memory of Clare showing up at his doorstep so distressed and upset, “Nope, still beautiful.” He told her, completely genuine, a short chuckle following. His fingers continued their ministrations along her clothed lower back, humming something under his breath as the silence fell over them. A coy smile spread across his lips as she spoke up again, “You’re not calling me boring, are you?” He teased, nuzzling closer to her, and pecking the tip of her nose sweetly.

“Just fine?” Clare asked softly, worry evident in her voice. As much as she wanted a more detailed answer about how he had been sleeping she knew well enough not to press him for one. She hoped that if he hadn’t been sleeping he would tell her instead of doing what she had done and lie about it. As hard as she tried though to push her worried thoughts about his vague answer out of her mind she still couldn’t fight the guilty feeling that she had been the cause somehow. Unable to leave the conversation alone like she originally wanted to the younger girl felt the need to question him further on it knowing that her mind would never be able to rest in peace until she knew that at least one of them had been getting the right amount of sleep. “You’d… tell me if you weren’t sleeping… right?” she asked gently afraid of being the one who pushed their innocent conversation into a fight. Trying hard not to let her thoughts dwell on their past fight or her worry over his sleeping habits Clare trailed her fingertips up from his chest back to his cheek. Letting the pad of her thumb rub back and forth across the smooth pale skin of his cheek she tried to memorize everything about this moment. The way that his chest and rose and fell softly with each breath that he took, the look of love that was reflected in his green eyes, the soothing feeling of his fingertips ghosting over the small of her back letting her know that everything was going to be okay. “Laying here with you like this almost makes me never want to leave this spot.” His lips dipped down to kiss the tip of her nose almost as if agreeing with her previous comment. Smiling softly up at him she couldn’t help the sarcastic words that left her mouth at his playful accusation. “Oh, incredibly boring. In fact I’m not sure how I’ve ever been able to sit through one of our dates without falling asleep on you.”

Eli instantly regret his decision on giving her such a short, but concise answer. With the most sincere gaze he could muster up, he shook his head a bit. “I meant, I’m sleeping normally.” He attempted to add, although he knew he’d already worried her, not that there was even the smallest thing she needed to worry about. “There is absolutely nothing to tell, but even if there was, I promise, you’d know.” He assured her, ending his statement with a curt nod. The older boy couldn’t contain the gentle smile that cast across his lips as her fingertips trailed back up to his cheek, her simple touch making it all the more difficult to process any coherent type of thought. Just three days ago, the two had both exchanged some harsh words, tears had been shed and feelings had been hurt, yet they found their way back, they always seemed to. Eli hummed in content at their particular closeness, his fingertips moving up and down her back in a loving, and careful motion, as if she was so fragile she could simply shatter. He beamed with happiness at her next set of words, knowing exactly how she felt, for he knew no better comfort than being with the girl he loved, whispering flirtatious banter back and forth, their lips so close to touching…He felt his heart skip a beat as she graced him with another smile, almost forgetting what he had even said in the first place. “You still love me though, right? Because of my rugged, manly looks?”
